Cross-Stitching
Weight
- The way the sun bears down, on a humid day
- A fig tree, laden to the ground with fruit
- To learn a piece of heavy news And carry it
Stretch
- To ask “how much do you love me?” “Thiiiis much!”
- The slow and silent motion of a full womb, making just a little bit of room for more
- To stop, for just another – few moments – for a friend, for conversation
Pain
- A thorn: blood drawn from picking in the berry bushes
- To hear a child cry out, when you can’t reach her
- The sound of woven fabric
torn
asunder
Joy
- The way my fathers arms feel safe when I cry in them
- Tracing the stretch marks on a laden heart
- And knowing it’s worth it
